Types of Roofing Systems

Type of commercial buildings, climate, and customer needs are all factors that go into deciding the best choice for an appropriate commercial roofing system. A flat roof has different needs than a pitched roof, and you wouldn’t use the same material to cover a warehouse as you would something more in the public eye. At Great Lakes Roofing, we understand the value of different types of metal commercial roofs.

1. Metal Shingles

Shingles are a beautiful way to top a building. Metal shingles give off that warm aesthetic with all the benefits that a metal roof offers. They come in many shapes and colors and add tremendous curb appeal to any business. Metal shingles are more energy-efficient and durable than cedar or asphalt shingles.

2. Standing Seam System

Standing seam roofing is a system of metal panels held in place by raised seams. It’s a sleek look and has many benefits. These roofing systems are made of steel panels which are thicker than corrugated sheet metal panels. This is a tough and durable system and can last for 50 years. It is energy-efficient and weatherproof, standing up to extreme winds and temperatures. Rain and snow will slide down the airtight seams and off of the roof before moisture is allowed to linger.

3. Corrugated Sheet Metal System

This system is not as upscale as standing seam, but it has many of the same benefits. A tough and durable system that is low maintenance and can last more than 50 years.

4. Curved Roofing System

This is a curved standing seam system in which the roof gently slopes from the apex to the edges. It is a good design for canopies and roofs because it adds a positive aesthetic while keeping the moisture, especially snow, from settling. Curved metal roofing can last two to three times longer than shingles.
