Flat Roofs

Chicago Flat Roof Replacement and Restoration

A flat roof is a popular choice for commercial buildings due to its horizontal or nearly horizontal design. Unlike sloped roofs, flat roofs require materials that allow water to run off freely, protecting your Chicago business from water damage.

Traditionally, flat roofs use a tar and gravel-based surface, which, as long as there is no pooling of water, is sufficient to prevent penetration. However, these surfaces can fail in colder climates where ice dams and snow pack block the flow of water. Tar-based roofs are also sensitive to roof sagging, which affects the subtle grading of the surface.

Modern flat roofs utilize a continuous membrane covering, which can better resist water pooling. These membranes are typically applied as a continuous sheet, but sealants and adhesives are available for bonding multiple sheets and addressing structures that penetrate the roof surface.
